Peace & Justice

Persons whose gifts for ministry lead them toward paths that challenge oppressive systems and unjust structures may wish to consider the Peace and Justice emphasis. In addition to the core curriculum, Comprehensive Seminar, and electives of their own choosing, students do their Supervised Ministry in a setting appropriate for peace and justice ministry. Those who choose the Peace and Justice emphasis in their ministry take a total of four peace and justice studies (PJST) courses, as well as the core requirement of Introduction to Peace and Justice Studies. The ministry emphasis requirements include a course within biblical studies (e.g., Bible and Violence and Nonviolence); one within theology (e.g Liberation Theologies); one within either church history or spirituality (e.g., History of Friends' Peace Witness or Spirituality of Peace and Justice); and one in the area of applied theological studies. For flexibility, students may petition to take other courses in each of these disciplines in place of the PJST courses. Students are encouraged to supplement their course work with involvement in their peace and justice concerns outside class.
