Tenth Annual Pastors Conference - 2007

"Coming Home to Love" with Elaine Heath, Sept. 24-25, 2007

Evangelism is the holistic initiation of persons into the reign of God as revealed in Jesus Christ. It is carried out through three categories of activity: preaching, teaching and healing. The foundation for holistic evangelism is contemplative prayer. In this conference, Dr. Elaine A. Heath will guide us in exploring the relationship between contemplative prayer and holistic evangelism, and consider a variety of ways to cultivate the contemplative life in both pastors and congregations.

Workshops on evangelism, church growth, and spirituality, presented by ESR faculty and alums, will round out the conference schedule.

About Our Conference Leader

Elaine HeathDR. ELAINE A. HEATH is the McCreless Assistant Professor of Evangelism at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, and is an Elder in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. In local church ministry, her special area of interest is leadership development leading to congregational health and evangelistic vitality. Among her research interests are the emergent church, spirituality and evangelism, and gender and evangelism. This fall, Baker Academic will publish her new book, Out of the Night: A Contemplative Vision for Evangelism.

Elaine and her husband, Randall Bell, live in Garland, Texas. Their two adult daughters are Holly and Jeanette. Favorite activities include hiking, camping, bicycling, canoeing, music and watching movies.

Elaine holds a BA from Oakland University, an MDiv from Ashland Theological Seminary, and a PhD from Duquesne University.
