ESR to Host 2015 Leadership Conference
ESR will host the 6th annual Quaker Leadership Conference, Transformational Leadership & the Prophetic Witness, August 14-16, 2015. The conference will feature keynote presentations from ESR Dean Jay Marshall and leadership consultant Joyce Schroeder.
In a world where ideals and standards sometimes lie unmet, the idea of transformation is appealing, especially in the area of leadership. When the transformational leader embraces leadership as a spiritual exercise in which faith and vocation are inseparable, this work may, in fact, have points in common with the prophetic witness. This year's conference will explore the intersection of these ideas.
When Leading for Change Simply Isn’t Enough: Leadership as Prophetic Witness with Jay Marshall
Jay Marshall is Dean of Earlham School of Religion, having served in that capacity since 1998. Prior to that, he was a pastoral minister in North Carolina and Indiana Yearly Meetings. In addition to the usual responsibilities of a dean, Jay teaches and writes on the topic of leadership with a particular interest in how Quaker principles can contribute to the discussion.
Living Our True Purpose with Joyce Schroeder
Joyce Schroeder has a Masters Degree in Organizational Development and Leadership. In her capacity as a consultant, she has helped to improve working relationships between union and management in some of the best managed companies in the United States.
Workshops will cover topics such as environmental sustainability, responsible leadership, relational presence and strategic planning. We will also hear from two panels of organizational leaders on the topics of Vision for a Transformed Church and Quaker Ethics in Today's Economy.
ESR will also be hosting the 3rd annual Quaker College Leadership Gathering on August 13-14th.
The gathering is an opportunity for Quaker college students to meet their peers and discuss how service informs their faith and vocational discernment. More information on the gathering can be found on the ESR website. Also, students who attend the QCLG can participate in the Leadership Conference free of charge.
