ESR Named to 2015 Class of Seminaries that Change The World

Join us for the 2015 Willson Lectures as we explore "Finding The Spirit of God in The Spirit of The World" with keynote speaker Diana Butler Bass.

ESR is honored to be included in the 2015 class of Seminaries that Change the World. Twenty-six institutions are included in this year's class, announced by The Center for Faith and Service, including neighboring partner Bethany Theological Seminary. This is the second consecutive year that ESR has been included.

In a time when religious leadership is essential, the role of ESR and all seminaries becomes increasingly important. This group of institutions is theologically, politically and geographically diverse, yet shares a common commitment to work together to strengthen and advance theological education.

“ESR is gratified to be recognized as one of the Seminaries that Change the World for the second consecutive year," stated ESR Dean Jay Marshall. "Transformation occurs not simply by doing good, but by doing good over time. New patterns and pathways emerge not from a single event but by sustained practices. Seminaries won’t change the world overnight; neither will we do it alone. But over time and in collaboration with others, ESR is committed to developing persons and ministries that renew, re-imagine, and revitalize faith communities and the neighborhoods they occupy.”

Seminaries that Change the World is part of a movement to reclaim the important historic role that theological education has played in promoting community and justice while training and launching local and world leaders in all areas of society.

"The very title, Seminaries that Change the World, is a provocative reminder of what theological education has meant in the past and what its purpose and promise is for the future," said Rev. Wayne Meisel. The 2015 class of schools has demonstrated a commitment to invite, welcome, support, train and launch individuals into the world as community leaders.
