archivesDay 11 of 35 in RomeToday, Thursday, was a seminar day. We had some interesting discussoin about what we can do about the lives of people in first century Rome by the material evidence they left behind in portrait busts and funerary reliefs. In order to finish up the reading, I got up at 5am, go ready for the day, and then went to the library. No one was there. I found the book I needed in the reserve room and then found a place where I could open windows and enjoy the cool morning air. When I was finished, I looked up a book I need to use. The weird thing is, I'm not sure I'm supposed to have taken the book out of the library. I can't remember what the woman said at orientation and the Welcome booklet & library rules are contradictory. After lunch I read for awhile and then took a nap. Then I went back to reading until dinner, which is at 8pm. Once again dinner was very tasty and I had some great conversation. There are always visitors at dinner and they are usually very accomplished people in their field. One woman I've been talking with is Carol Lewine, an emerita professor from Queens College, NY, who wrote a book on the Sistine Chapel. She's doing research now on the tapestries. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her. Tomorrow most of my group has decided to go on a day trip to see the place called the "Mirror of Diana," something like that. I decided not to go because I need to get some reading done. Maybe if I get enough done tomorrow I can go exploring on Saturday. Because tomorrow is the 4th of July and many employees here are from the States, the office, kitchen, and library will be closed. I'll also need to find some place to eat tomorrow. I would really like to try some authentic Italian pizza. Maybe in the evening the group will get together for a little 4th of July celebration together. I haven't heard much about any plans. Today I added a few my pictures to my Facebook page and made them available so anyone could see them. Maybe this link will get you there.
