Day Nine of 35 in RomeTuesday was class session day. We are led in discussion about the readings and what we've seen in museum visits. That runs from 9am with a coffee break at about 11 and then we break at about 12:30 or so. I know most people enjoy discussion type seminars. I'd rather listen to a lecture myself. I'm afraid I don't usually have much to add to the conversation. I've been keeping up with the readings pretty well. After lunch I did read a couple of articles that I should have already read. I had a very enjoyable dinner. The food here is excellent. The food service here is part of Rome Sustainable Food Program. I had a nice long talk with one of my colleagues about why we do what we do, sort of the spirituality of academia. I'm beginning to wish I had brought some DVDs with me. At the end of the day I need some entertainment to wind down. I can't watch any of the full episodes of TV shows in this region. I found one web site that let me watch a single episode of Gunsmoke, Hogans Heroes, and Andy Griffith. I think there might actually be a lounge somewhere with a TV. That's a little too much. Maybe I shouldn't find out where that is. The temperature has been in the 90s. There isn't any air conditioning around here anywhere. I did learn where there's a little cafe/bar with A/C that's nearby. If I get too desperate, i might try going there. But, as they say, it's a dry heat. And there's a nice breeze most of the time. And I have my precious ceiling fan. By seidti at 07/02/2008 - 1:01pm | Rome | Sabbatical | seidti's blog | login or register to post comments | by seidti
