DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS

Interpreting Ancient Manuscripts

Instructional web site on the formation of the text of the New Testament. Focuses on the Greek manuscripts and the process of studying the manuscripts and their scribal transmission, the principles of textual criticism, and the modern critical text on which translations are based. During 1999-2000 I received an appointment as a Visiting Scholar at the Scholarly Technology Group, Brown University, to work further on developing the web site.

Learning Modules related to Early Christianity

In 2000 I worked freelance for the Digital Learning Group, Arlington, MA, as a Content Expert writing glossary and profile items for an online textbook in Religion. I also contributed content for interactive modules on such topics as the comparing the Gospels and the Jerusalem Temple in Jesus' Day.

Letter-Writing in Greco-Roman Antiquity

This is a hypertext system based on the pre-publication documents of Stanley K. Stowers (used with permission). Only students within courses I teach at ESR are allowed access.

ESR web site

The web site for Earlham School of Religion has gone through several generations. The second version was an adaptation of the ESR catalog and was developed by a local web design company. The third version was my attempt to apply current standards for XHTML encoding and web usability and accessibility. I made use of such resources as Elizabeth Castro, HTML for the World Wide Web; Jeffrey Zeldman, Designing with Web Standards; Eric A. Meyer, Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide; Joe Clark, Building Accessible Websites; Jakob Nielsen, Designing Web Usability; Larry Ullman, PHP for the World Wide Web.

Digital Quaker Collection

Project Director for this digital library of early Quaker texts. I worked closely with the company TechBooks in the scanning and encoding process. We used the Text Encoding Initiative standards for encoding the XML and developed a search & retrieval system based on the search engines eXist and Lucene.

USA Church History

This project included digital video of classroom lectures of Stephen Angell (Professor of Quaker Studies, ESR) and the editing and production of DVDs using Pinnacle's Studio v. 9.
