Mat 15:1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of [B: which were come from; T: from] Jerusalem, saying,

JN1:45 (1653): ...you have been blinded for many years and led on to worship God in outside forms and customs, after the traditions and commandments of men [Mat 15:9 | Mar 7:7], which by imaginary imitations and consultations they have set up for their own ends, and have made laws to bind the people to observe them, contrary to that light shining into the conscience ... and the practice of Christ and the apostles, and so have made the word of God of none effect by their traditions [Mat 15:6 | Mar 7:13].
RBA 345, RBAF 302 (1678, XII.1): [Christ reproves the Pharisees] for "making void the commandments of God by their traditions" [Mat 15:6 | Mar 7:13]. This complaint may at this day be no less justly made as to many bearing the name of Christians, who have introduced many things of this kind, partly borrowed from the Jews, which they more tenaciously stick to and more earnestly contend for [Jude 1:3] than for the weightier points of Christianity: because that self, yet alive and ruling in them, loves their own inventions [Psa 106:39] better than God's commands.
JWJM 218 (1762): Jeremiah acquaints us that the priests cried, "Peace, peace," when there was no peace [Jer 8:11], by which means the people grew bold in their wickedness – and having committed abominations were not ashamed [Jer 8:11], but through wrong constructions of the Law they justified themselves and boastingly said: "We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us" [Jer 8:8]. These corruptions continued till the days of our Saviour, who told the Pharisees: "You have made the commandment of God of none effect through your tradition" [Mat 15:6].

EQ 178 (Francis Howgill, 1655): And therefore you professors, who have built high towers [Gen 11:1-9] and castles in your imaginations, and have told of reformation these many years, but you have nothing but a hand writing to establish your building on, and all your reformation has been but the washing of cups [Mar 7:8], and pulling down one thing, and setting up another beggarly elementary image [Gal 4:9 / Lev 26:1, Deut 16:22]; you do not witness the better hope brought in [Heb 7:19], nor the time of reformation [Heb 9:10], nor cannot abide that any should declare it to you, nor believe it, nor hear it.

RBA 347, RBAF 305 (1678, XII.2): We find not anything called the "seal" or "pledge" of our inheritance but the Spirit of God; it is by that we are said to be sealed (Eph 1:14 and 4:30), which is also termed the "earnest of our inheritence (2 Cor 1:22), and not by outward water, or eating and drinking; which as the wickedest of men may partake of, so many that do, do notwithstanding it go to perdition; for it is not outward washing with water that maketh the heart clean, by which men are fitted for heaven; and is "that which goeth into the mouth does not defile a man [Mat 15:11 | Mar 7:15], because it is put forth again" and so goeth to the dunghill [Mat 15:17 | Mar 7:19]
GF6:11 (1679): So the serpent is called the world's god, the world that lies in wickedness [1 Jn 15:19]; and he hath made it like a wilderness with his rough plants, briars and thorns, that he hath planted in man's and woman's transgressing heart, which as Christ saith, "must all be rooted up, every plant that the heavenly Father hath not planted [Mat 15:13]".

GF4:355 (1668): [cites Mat 15:14] and are not all the persecuting priests and teachers now in Christendom blind guides? and will any be led by them but the blind, is not the place they lead into, the ditch, and is not the persecution against them that can see? and so all the guides in Christendom that persecute, are they not the blind ones, and doing the works of the night, not of the day, wherein people can see....
MFS 27f (1660): [quoting Isa 42:15f] "... And I will lead the blind in a way that they know not, in paths that they have not known I will guide them...." Them that come into this path and way must come from the blind teachers of the world, who are leaders of the blind [Mat 15:14], [who] keep people in blindness and ignorance of God and his truth, who deny the light to be a sufficient teacher, which is the eye of the whole body [cf Mat 6:22].
JN1:302 (1654): All who stumbles at the light [Isa 59:10/John 11:9f], stumbles at the Scriptures, and does not know the meaning of them, for that eye that is turned from the light is the blind and leads into the ditch [Mat 15:14], and is to be condemned with the light from Christ [John 3:19f].

IP3:340 (1674): There is that inwardly in the unregenerate which hardens and misleads; there is also that inwardly which tenders, melts, teacheth, and leadeth aright, and is believed in and obeyed. Oh, that men knew the difference between these two, and how to turn from the one to the other! Now that which says to the seed, when sufferings come for the testimony of truth, "Avoid it, save thyself [Mat 27:40]; let not this be unto thee," or the like, that is Satan; and if Satan be not cast behind, but that counsel hearkened unto which leadeth from the cross, Satan is followed.
