GF3:522 (1659): ye caused John Hart ... and Jennet Hambleton ... to be imprisoned for entertaining [Friends] in their houses. Here ye have proved yourselves to be the wolves the sheep are sent among, Mat 10:16, that are ravening to devour them; which is one of the marks that ye are the false prophets Christ said should come [Mat 7:15]. And you are haling out of the synagogues [John 16:2], and excommunicating [John 16:2GBT], and ye never show for what; which practice ye are in, which is a work of darkness.

IP4:218 (1671): we have right to the Scriptures, to the promises, to all that Christ did and suffered for us, and witness the propitiation by and through him, and bless God for all the dispensations of life, wherein he hath appeared to the children of men in any age, which were all glorious and excellent in their season; but the dispensation of the Spirit is the standing dispensation, which excels in glory, which Christ, in the days of his flesh [Heb 5:7], pointed his disciples to wait for [Acts 1:4f], which his going away was to make way for [John 16:7]. This dispensation was revealed and set up before the apostasy from the life and Spirit of the apostles, and is again revealed and set up in power and great glory, after the long night of apostasy....

IP1:64 (1658): The first way of meeting with the Spirit of God, is as a convincer of sin.... When Christ promised the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, he said this concerning him, "that he should convince the world of sin." John 16:8. They who are created anew in Christ, and become his disciples, receive comfort from the Spirit; but what is he to the world? Or how may they feel any operation of him? Why, he is to them a convincer of sin, and they may find him checking them for, and convincing them of, their sins. So that the great work for man, while he lies in the darkness ... is to distinguish the movings and stirrings of the Spirit of God. And this is the best way for man in this state to know them by: that which discovers that which is evil, THAT is good.

JN2:13 (1655): [N's adversaries said] that I owned another Christ besides that which died at Jerusalem because I owned a Christ within me, contrary to the apostles' doctrine, who preached Christ within [Col 1:27], and did not preach another Christ [2 Cor 11:4]; they said also that Christ did not convince the world because the world cannot receive him, contrary to the words of Christ (John 16:8f).
JN2:560f (1655): It's a strange doctrine to thee, to know the Son of God condemning sin in the flesh [Rom 8:3]; and so it appears, when the liar is so strong in thee. If thou knew any light in thee but what is thy own fancy, the devil would be reproved and sin condemned, didst thou know Christ in the flesh. But the prince of the world not being judged [John 16:11], the reprobate is head, which knows not Christ in thee [2 Cor 13:5], his light and Spirit, which reproves the world [John 16:8] and guides into all truth [John 16:13], in whom he is known and followed.

GF3:555 (1659): P. "All things contained in the gospel are summed up in the apostles' creed." A. The apostles do not tell us of a creed, but the pope's canon-book, and common-prayer-book [do]; and many things the apostles had to say, which were not lawful to utter [2 Cor 12:4], and many things Christ had to say, which they could not bear [John 16:12]; but the gospel is the power of God [Rom 1:16], and that the scripture speaks of, but doth not say the epistles are it.
IP4:270 (16–): There are several states and degrees of growth; there is a tempted state, a wandering state, a backsliding state, a shaken state, an established state, &c. Now, there is somewhat proper to every one according to his state, which the Spirit of the Lord knows; and those who are called out by him, to minister in his name and power, know also, as his Spirit pleaseth to teach them, and make manifest to them. All truths are not proper to every state, nor all remedies to every disease. Christ had many things to teach and say to his disciples, whch they were not able to bear [John 16:12]; and a man in reading the Scriptures, though he should understand the truth of what he reads, yet he is apt to misapply things, as to himself or others, unless the Lord guide and help him.
GF5:245 (1676): And is it not so now to you christians, with all your tongues and languages, that say, inspiration has ceased, and yet, "no man knows the things of God but by the spirit of God [1 Cor 2:11]." So as the scriptures were given forth by the inspiration of God [2 Pet 1:21], so they are known again by the same spirit. And therefore, Christ saith, "I will send you the spirit of truth, he shall lead you into all truth [John 16:13], and he shall bring to your memory the things that I have spoken [John 14:26], and he shall shew you things to come [John 16:13]," and so make them prophets; "and he shall take of mine, and give unto you [John 16:15]."

GF4:129 (1657): All the world's teachers, people, and professors, ... you are out of the life of them, who know a silence of the flesh [Zech 2:13], and a waiting upon the Lord in silence, to hear his still voice [1 Ki 19:12], and to hear his voice behind thee [Ezek 3:12, Rev 1:10], saying, this is the way, walk in it [Isa 30:21], and to have the mind stayed upon God [Isa 26:3], and to be guided by God, and to be led with the spirit of God into all truth [John 16:13], when they do not speak words outwardly: first, the spirit leading, then words from the spirit, and thus the spirit is not quenched [1 Th 5:19] in son nor daughter, in handmaid, nor servant [Joel 2:28f].
JN2:301 (1655): Thou tells of searching the scriptures Berean-like [Acts 17:10f]; I say the Bereans did not search the scriptures to oppose the Light, nor to deny that Spirit that reveals things to come [John 16:13]; but those who search the scriptures to that end must needs be left blind as they are found blind.
WDS 95 (1655): The Spirit of truth which we witness in us, is peaceable, and neither doth violence or sheds blood: and all that are guided by the Spirit of truth [John 16:13], the light and power of Christ, their hands are bound from offering violence, or shedding of blood.
RBA 66 (1678, III.2): If by the Spirit we can only come to the true knowledge of God; if by the Spirit we are to be led into all Truth [John 16:13], and so be taught of all things [John 14:26]; then the Spirit, and not the Scriptures, is the foundation and ground of all Truth and knowledge, and the primary rule of faith and manners....
HPS 367 (Elizabeth Bathurst, 1679): If any break outward bread, and drink outward wine with a sincere intention, as believing it their duty, that they may the more be put in remembrance of the body and blood of Christ, by the remebrancer, the Spirit of Truth which is appointed by the Father to lead the saints into all truth [John 16:13], [Friends] judge them not, but rather hope that such will come further out of the shadow to the substance....

GF6:479 (168-?): But what will the teachers, both of the Papists and Protestants say to this, that deny Christ the true light, whihch enlightens very man that comes into the world [John 1:9]? .... IP2:469 (1665): A second thing, wherein professors grievously mistake, is, about praying in the name of Christ ; in which name, he that asketh receiveth [John 16:24]; and out of which, there is no right asking of the Father. They think that praying in the name of Christ consists in using some outward words; as, "Do this for thy Son's sake," or "We beg of thee in Christ's name;" whereas, that in the heart which knoweth not the Father may use such words; and that which is taught of the Father to pray, and prayeth in the Son, many not be led to use those words. The name , wherein the asking and acceptance is, is living ; and he that prayeth in the motion of the Spirit, and in the power and virtue of the son's life, he prayeth in the name , and his voice is owned of the Father; and not the other, who hath learned in his own will, time, and spirit to use those words relative to the Son.
DFR 44 (17–): He has been my instructor in a very particular manner; much more so than I have mentioned, or than I can describe; and I am far from supposing that I have been more deserving than others. Christ said, "Ask and ye shall receive [John 16:24]." I asked for his direction and assistance, and he helped me, and I found the promise true.

IP3:304 (1674): Indeed grace and mercy and peace are multiplied from God our Father, in and through the Lord Jesus Christ, daily [1 Pet 1:2/Jude 1:2]; insomuch as that saying of Christ to his disciples (John 16:26-27) is now fulfilled: "I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you; for the Father himself loveth you," &c. The Father in his love hath brought us to the Son, and the Son in the same love hath brought us back to the Father; and now the love flows from the Father, in and through the Son, most naturally and abundantly.
WPR 137 (1677): I write not to you as to the world, for you are called out of the world [John 15:19], by him that hath overcome the world [John 16:33]; that as he is not of this world, so you may not be of this world. Come then out of it more and more, out of the nature, out of the spirit, out of the fruits, and out of the fashions of the world! They are all for the fire. Christ said, the world loveth its own [John 15:19]. Search with the Light of the Lord Jesus, what there is in you, that the world owneth and loveth ; for that is its own. And consider what it is, that the world is offended with : not with that which cometh from itself, of its own making and inventing, but that which crosseth its inventions , that is of another nature, and springeth of another root. O be not conformed to the fashions of this world, that please the lust, which grieveth the Spirit of God [[Eph 4:30]; but be ye renewed in your minds [Rom 12:2]; and being so within , you will be as a new people without .
JSS 53 (17–): He trod into the sympathetic experience of every step of our tribulations and sufferings, and commiserates us in our most tried states; and having conquered our grand adversary, in our nature, and while clothed with flesh and found in fashion as a man, well may he bid us be of good cheer, and not far the assaults of satan: laying down as the groundork and reason of our confidence and cheerfulness, "I have overcome the world!" Seeing the height of all happiness is placed in the true knowledge of God; "This is life eternal, to know the true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent [John 17:3]; the true and right understanding of this foundation and ground of knowledge is that which is most necessary to be known and believed in the first place.

This is a strange doctrine, to make the manhood the main Redeemer, and the life and Spirit of the Godhead but the supporter and carrier up of the man in the work of redemption; whereas it was the Word which created all, which also redeemed; he that left his glory, and made himself of no reputation, but came in the form of a servant [Phil 2:7] to do the will. It was the Spirit and life of the Father (even the eternal Son) which took up that body, appeared in that body, offered it up in a pure and acceptable sacrifice to the Father, finishing the work therein which the Father gave him to do. John 17:4f.
GFT 110 (1675): Joyful are the feet of those that preach the gospel on the top of the mountains [Isa 52:7], which blessed glorious gospel of Christ is not of man nor by man [Gal 1:1], but by the Lord Jesus, the heavenly spiritual man [1 Cor 15:46f] glorified with the Father before the world began [John 17:5].

JSS 9 (17–): For though there is, in a sense, properly a plurality as brought forth in the many coheirs of the inheritance, yet in the ground and substance of it, as in God, it is one heir, one offspring, one only begotten: andhence the assertion, "we, being many are one bread [1 Cor 10:17];" and hence Christ’s prayer to the Father, that they might all be one, as he and the Father are one [John 17:11].

GF6:99 (1680): And Christ said, "the world hated him, and he was not of the world, but testified against it, and therefore it hated him [John 7:7]." And he said unto his disciples, "that they were not of the world, as he was not of the world [John 17:14];" and therefore they were to be conformable to the image of Christ [Rom 8:29], and not conformable to the world [Rom 12:2].
IP2:176 (1661): The contrariety of that which is born of God, and drawn out of the world, to that which is of the flesh, or of corrupt man, and left in the world, this is that which increaseth and draweth forth the enmity in the corrupt principle. "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world; therefore the world hateth them [John 17:14]." They are of another spirit, of another image, of another make, of another heart, of another desire, of another manner of carriage and demeanor, of another principle, and have other ends in all they do, than the world.....
JWJM 123 (17– ): And being at our youths’ meeting in Chesterfield about a week before the time I expected to set off, was there led to speak on that prayer of our Redeemer to his Father: "I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from evil [John 17:15]." And in attending to the pure openings of Truth, had to mention what he elsewhere said to his Father: "I know that thou hearest me at all times" [John 11:42], so that as some of his followers kept their places, and as his prayer was granted, it followed necessarily that they were kept from evil.

IP3:271 (1672): When [David] saith, "Wherewithal shall a young amn cleanse his way?" And immediately giveth the answer, "By taking heed according to thy Word [Psa 119:9]." Doth he mean the letter without, or the Word within? What is it that cleanseth the heart, that cleanseth the way?: Is it any thing less than the water of life [Rev 21:6], than the blood of the everlasting covenant [Heb 13:20], than the Word and life of truth within? "Sanctify them by thy truth; thy Word is truth [John 17:17]." In the sense of that inwardly, and obedience to it, is the renewing and sanctification felt. And so this brings to be undefiled in the way [Psa 119:13], and to keep the testimonies of life, and preserves from doing iniquity.

IP3:43 (1667): Query 24. Is not the substance, the life, the anointing, called Christ, wherever it is found? Doth not the name belong to the whole body (and every member in the body) as well as to the head? Are they not all of one; yea, all one in the anointing?
