SUMMARY:QLC Sandbox
DESCRIPTION:Come and join other QLC Quaker Leadership Conference participants in a QLC Sandbox experience. As you might remember\, we ran out of time to play in the sandbox during the conference itself. We promised there would be another opportunity to do this. \n\n\n\nWhat is a QLC Sandbox? It’s an opportunity to play with important ideas. We’re wondering and imagining. The things we are playing with are important\, and they are so important that they deserve our childlike attention. \n\n\n\nThe sandbox parameters are simple: \n\n\n\n\nWe are not deciding or diagnosing anything\n\n\n\nWe are looking at an opportunity and playing with the ideas\n\n\n\nWe are saying things out loud to test them with others without fear of being shut down\n\n\n\nWe are testing our thoughts without the need to be sure or convinced of them yet\n\n\n\nAs always\, we ask us all to be good listeners and give at least a slight pause between speakers.\n\n\n\n\nLet’s play together in the sandbox!\n\n\n\nWe will join via Zoom and will divide into groups depending on interest. \n\n\n\nSandbox A\n\n\n\nLet’s wonder about equipping ourselves and our meetings for pastoral care \n\n\n\nSandbox B\n\n\n\nLet’s wonder about creating healthy\, spiritual\, intergenerational opportunities \n\n\n\nSandbox C\n\n\n\nLet’s wonder about working on shared concerns\, even when we have different beliefs \n\n\n\nSandbox D \n\n\n\nFree Play – bring your own questions of “wondering” to share with others \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJoin the Zoom lobby

SUMMARY:Rivers of Life
DESCRIPTION:Many Friends were unable to attend the Quaker Leadership Conference in April but wanted an opportunity to hear ideas\, make new connections\, and worship together. Our response is to offer an online version of the conference. And on the weekend of World Quaker Day! \n\n\n\nWe will have times of waiting worship\, worship through song\, and some reflections from Andy and Della. The core of the conference will be the “stream studies” offered by eight different Friends who provide insights into the future of Friends and propose pathways to life-giving ministry. After these presentations\, we will have a time of silent reflection followed by questions and conversations. These presentations will be the same ones presented at the in-person conference\, with a couple new ones mixed in. \n\n\n\nWe anticipate a generative time of new ideas\, new connections\, and rich worship across Quaker streams. Join us as we explore Rivers of Life among Friends and discern vital futures for ourselves as individuals\, meetings\, churches\, and organizations. \n\n\n\nMore info & registration (via eventbrite) \n\n\n\nFacilitators: Della Stanley-Green & Andy Stanton-Henry \n\n\n\nMusic: Nate Macy \n\n\n\nPresenters: Scott Wagoner\, Charity Sandstrom\, Emily Provance\, Tom Hamm\, Robin Mohr\, Julianna Smith\, Windy Cooler\, and Adria Gulizia

SUMMARY:Convergent Friends Model of Renewal conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Insights conversation with Wess Daniels & Robin Mohr. These two great Quaker thinkers and leaders will talk with us about the Convergent Friends Model of Renewal. This model has great potential for renewing our meetings & organizations and healing historical divisions. \n\n\n\nWess Daniels bio: \n\n\n\nWess Daniels is the William R. Rogers Director of Friends Center and Quaker Studies at Guilford College. Prior to moving to Guilford College with his family in 2015\, Wess was the pastor of Camas Friends Church for 6 years. \n\n\n\nWess holds a B.A. in Bible and Theology from Malone University\, an M.A. in Theology and a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. \n\n\n\nHe has extensive public speaking and teaching experience\, teaching at Guilford College\, George Fox Seminary\, Earlham School of Religion and a host of other lectures\, presentations & workshops at other schools and study centers. \n\n\n\nHis book\, “A Convergent Model of Renewal: Remixing the Quaker Tradition in a Participatory Culture\,” was published by Wipf and Stock in early 2015. \n\n\n\nHe is most interested in topics pertaining to faith in contemporary culture\, Quaker renewal\, sociology of religion\, participatory culture\, fandom\, Rock n Roll and Hip Hop. \n\n\n\nWess enjoys spending time with his wife\, Emily\, playing with their three kids\, fermenting sauerkraut\, roasting coffee\, biking\, riding his motorcycle and listening to his record player. \n\n\n\nHe is from Canton\, Ohio. \n\n\n\nRobin Mohr bio: \n\n\n\nRobin Mohr has served as Executive Secretary of the Friends World Committee for Consultation\, Section of the Americas since 2011. She is a writer\, minister and mother. She was born in California\, graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University\, and is fluent in Spanish. Over the past 35 years\, she worked for educational\, anti-poverty and religious causes in Washington\, D.C.\, New York\, San Francisco\, and Mexico. Robin coined the term “convergent Friends” in 2005 to express a contemporary movement of the Holy Spirit across divides of age\, geography and theology\, referring to Friends seeking a deeper engagement with our Quaker heritage and a more authentic life in the kingdom of God on earth today\, radically inclusive of all who wish to live this life. She and her husband Christopher are now members of Green Street Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia YM\, and they have two young adult children. She writes for Quaker magazines\, books and her own blog\, What Canst Thou Say? robinmsf.blogspot.com. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n \n HiddenEvent name(Required) Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n AfghanistanAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Sint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongoCongo\, Democratic Republic of theCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzechiaCôte d'IvoireDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHoly SeeHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKorea\, Democratic People's Republic ofKorea\, Republic ofKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacaoMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestine\, State ofPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint Helena\, Ascension and Tristan da CunhaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint MartinSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSint MaartenSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia and the South Sandwich IslandsSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyria Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzania\, the United Republic ofThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUS Minor Outlying IslandsUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUnited StatesUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaViet NamVirgin Islands\, BritishVirgin Islands\, U.S.Wallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabweÅland Islands\n Country\n \n \n Meeting or church affiliation Areas of interest for this discussionOptional\n \n I would like to receive occasional emails from QLC about upcoming events\n \n \n I would like to receive weekly Friendly Reminder blog reflections

SUMMARY:Consultation on Interpersonal Violence within Quaker Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Do you carry a concern for healing interpersonal violence that takes place within Quaker meetings\, churches\, and organizations? Join us for a cross-branch discussion about how we can address the impacts of abuse and how we can take preventative measures in our ministries. \n\n\n\nPublic minister Windy Cooler will lead this consultation\, sharing about the Life and Power Project\, which uses Quaker discernment practices to address abuse using the query: Do we live in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion of child abuse\, as well as intimate partner abuse and all forms of violence within the family and community? \n\n\n\nWe will consider how we can learn from this model\, give financially to this ministry\, or get involved in the project. \n\n\n\n Check out the Life and Power Project website and watch Windy’s QuakerSpeak video. \n\n\n\nWindy’s Bio: \n\n\n\nWindy Cooler\, of Sandy Spring Meeting\, describes herself as a practical theologian\, public minister\, good Quaker pirate\, and cultural worker. She has been an embraced public minister since 2018\, traveling widely among Friends with a concern for communities in crisis and Quaker family life. She was co-editor of Friends Journal’s News section (2018-23); the Pendle Hill 2020 Cadbury Scholar\, a 2022-23 fellow of the interfaith NGO Odyssey Impact\, and a current doctoral candidate at Lancaster Theological Seminary. \n\n\n\nShe is the convener of Testimonies to Mercy\, a seven-part traveling retreat series on the future of Quakerism; and Life and Power\, an international discernment project on abuse. She holds a master of divinity from Earlham School of Religion. \n\n\n\n \n HiddenEvent name(Required) Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n AfghanistanAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Sint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongoCongo\, Democratic Republic of theCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzechiaCôte d'IvoireDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHoly SeeHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKorea\, Democratic People's Republic ofKorea\, Republic ofKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacaoMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestine\, State ofPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint Helena\, Ascension and Tristan da CunhaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint MartinSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSint MaartenSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia and the South Sandwich IslandsSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyria Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzania\, the United Republic ofThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUS Minor Outlying IslandsUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUnited StatesUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaViet NamVirgin Islands\, BritishVirgin Islands\, U.S.Wallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabweÅland Islands\n Country\n \n \n Meeting or church affiliation Areas of interest for this discussionOptional\n \n I would like to receive occasional emails from QLC about upcoming events\n \n \n I would like to receive weekly Friendly Reminder blog reflections

Like the exiled Judeans processing the realities of their experience through Psalm 89\, a 21st-century reading of the text includes opportunities to engage with its poetry for praise\, remembrance\, confrontation\, and questioning anti-blackness in the world. This workshop hopes to encourage engagement with biblical poetry as an antidote to anti-blackness. Join me in reading Psalm 89 through the lens of holding racial grief in pursuit of racial justice\, envisioning the ways art is inspired action\, and noticing how creativity and imagination might support the co-creation of a world that challenges anti-blackness and seeks inclusion and equality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Nova George\n\n\n\nNova George (all pronouns) is a wonderer and poet interested in worship and the ways faith informs imaginings and realities regarding community\, belonging\, and inclusion. nova’s eyes light up in a conversation about the role of technology in spiritual education\, liberation theologies\, black literature as sacred text\, and everyday ritual and spiritual practice. You might find nova lounging in a Brooklyn café having a cup of herbal tea\, singing to a tree from their patio\, or dreaming about the world they hope to co-create with all of you. nova serves as the spiritual depending associate at the Friends General Conference ( FGC).

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Anne Lamott
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of captivating conversation with bestselling novelist and essayist Anne Lamott as ESR’s Ben Brazil interviews her. \n\n\n\n\nRegister via EventBrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Anne Lamott\n\n\n\nAnne Lamott writes and speaks about subjects that begin with capital letters: Alcoholism\, Motherhood\, and Jesus. But armed with self-effacing humor – she is laugh-out-loud funny – and ruthless honesty\, Lamott converts her subjects into enchantment. Actually\, she writes about what most of us don’t like to think about. She wrote her first novel for her father\, the writer Kenneth Lamott\, when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. She has said that the book was “a present to someone I loved who was going to die.” In all her novels\, she writes about loss – loss of loved ones and loss of personal control. She doesn’t try to sugar-coat the sadness\, frustration\, and disappointment but tells her stories with honesty\, compassion\, and a pureness of voice. As she says\, “I have a lot of hope and a lot of faith\, and I struggle to communicate that.” Anne Lamott does communicate her faith; in her books and in person\, she lifts\, comforts\, and inspires\, all the while keeping us laughing.Anne Lamott is the author of seven novels: Hard Laughter\, Rosie\, Joe Jones\, Blue Shoe\, All New People\, Crooked Little Heart\, and Imperfect Birds. She has also written several bestselling books of nonfiction\, including Operating Instructions\, an account of life as a single mother during her son’s first year; Some Assembly Required: A Journal of My Son’s First Son; and the classic book on writing; Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. She has also authored several collections of autobiographical essays on faith: Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith\, Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith\, and Grace (Eventually): Thoughts on Faith. In addition\, she has written Help\, Thanks\, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers\, Stitches; A Handbook on Meaning\, Hope and Repair\, Small Victories: Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace\, Hallelujah Anyway; Rediscovering Mercy and Almost Everything: Notes on Hope. Her most recent book is Dusk\, Night\, Dawn: On Revival and Courage. She is currently working on her next book\, Somehow: Thoughts on Love (Riverhead\, April 9\, 2024). Lamott has been honored with a Guggenheim Fellowship and has taught at UC Davis\, as well as at writing conferences across the country. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock has made a documentary on Lamott entitled “Bird by Bird with Annie” (1999). Anne Lamott has also been inducted into the California Hall of Fame.

SUMMARY:Author Talk with Howard Macy
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom for our next Author Talk\, featuring Howard Macy! We will discuss his spiritual journey among Friends and his insights into the biblical prophets found in his book Befriending the Prophets. \n\n\n\nPerhaps the prophets can provide timely wisdom for how to live and lead prophetically in a highly-politicized season. \n\n\n\nRegister for Author Talk \n\n\n\nA bit about Howard Macy: \n\n\n\nHoward Macy is now retired in Newberg\, Oregon after a lifetime of public ministry among Friends and teaching\, mostly at Friends University and George Fox University. He often taught about Psalms\, the Prophets\, and spiritual formation. Retirement offers a less intense pace\, but still leaves room to speak and write as way opens. Howard loves exploring Oregon\, playing trumpet in musical groups\, and sharing in the life of Wayside Friends Church in Newberg.

SUMMARY:Consultation on Intergenerational Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Melinda Wenner Bradley and Beth Collea from Quaker Religious Education Collaborative will facilitate this consultation. \n\n\n\nThis gathering is for Friends who are parenting\, grandparenting\, holding care for ministry or pastoral care in their church/meeting\, and anyone curious to explore being “all together.” \n\n\n\nWhy is intergenerational community good for all of us\, at any age? Why is it important for the future of Quakerism? This event will include a combination of worship\, presentation\, discussion\, and resource-sharing to address questions about how churches/meetings are seeking to be not only multigenerational\, but intergenerational spiritual communities. We’ll address why this topic is vital at this time\, how we can prepare members and the body (children and adults!) to do things “all together\,” and how to respond to “roadblocks” along the journey. \n\n\n\nRegister for Consultation on Intergenerational Engagement

SUMMARY:Sowing Seeds of Peace in Bolivia
DESCRIPTION:In 2010\, Bolivian Quaker Magaly Quispe started offering Alternatives to Violence workshops in one Bolivian prison. AVP-Bolivia has now reached 21 prisons – and every department in Bolivia. Come hear about Magaly’s work for peace and how it has expanded to anti-domestic violence work\, as well as a  “study home” — a residence for rural students who live too far from a high school to commute daily. Magaly was also one of the principal guides and hosts for ESR’s May 2024 class in Bolivia. \n\n\n\nClear Creek\, West Richmond Friends\, and First Friends meetings co-host this event. Light refreshments will be provided.  The talk is also available on Zoom. Email mujetbr@earlham.edu for the link. \n\n\n\nBeginning by offering an Alternatives to Violence workshop in one La Paz prison\, Magaly now offers AVP in prisons throughout Bolivia. She and her team also build greenhouses in prisons\, allowing inmates to grow their own food\, to have meaningful work\, and to reconnect to the land and\, in some cases\, to their rural roots.
