ESR Welcomes Development Coordinator

Earlham School of Religion is pleased to announce our new Development Coordinator, Tom Decker. Tom is a 2018 graduate of ESR and brings to the position a wealth of experience in developing donor relations and gifts to support the continued ministry of the School.

This new administrative faculty position at ESR is a one-year, part-time position to test the viability of a continued role for development as a distinct part of the faculty. The year-long effort will include evaluation of the position and a determination of whether to launch a search for a permanent position in the future.

“Tom joins us at a critical time in the history of ESR,” says Dean Matt Hisrich. “We stand on the threshold of several significant investments in physical infrastructure that will better position us to serve our students in the future. Having a collaborative partner in strategic planning around giving for these and other priorities is critically important. I am grateful to Tom for his willingness to return to ESR and support for this period.”

Tom brings to ESR’s faculty a long history of organizational leadership and fundraising experience. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of Home Share Now, a home-sharing non-profit in Barre, Vermont. In that role, Tom created an annual fundraising plan for organizational sustainability that included private and state grants, individual donor campaigns, special events, municipal appropriations, and planned giving.

"I am honored and grateful to return to the Earlham School of Religion and elated to soon be engaging once again with the ESR community,” shares Tom. “I value being a part of the critically important function of development at ESR and I relish the work ahead.”

Tom previously served as Principal of Hickory Creek Consulting; Executive Director of Domestic Cooperative Development for the National Cooperative Business Association; National Program Director of Credit Union Center for Social Impact for the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF); Director of Executive Development and Program Manager for the Credit Union National Associates & Affiliates, Inc. (CUNA); and Assistant Dean, Faculty, Research Advisor and Director of Student Services for the College of Business and Management at Cardinal Stritch University (CSU). In addition to his Master of Divinity from ESR, Tom earned a Master of Science in Education/College Student Development from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science in Religious Studies and Sociology from Ball State University.

Tom will join the faculty in October. Please join us in welcoming him back to ESR! If you, your meeting, or your organization would like to support ESR’s continued mission financially, please contact Matt Hisrich at 800-432-1377 or
