ESR calls Elena Nur Lloyd-Sidle as Assistant Professor of Spirituality

Earlham School of Religion is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elena Nur Lloyd-Sidle as Assistant Professor of Spirituality, beginning in Fall 2025. Dr. Lloyd-Sidle shares:

“I am passionate about exploring comparative spiritual frameworks that can help us live lives of integrity during our time on this earth. As a teacher, scholar, and practitioner, I value the ability to see behind our received lenses and frameworks, understanding this as both an act of intellectual honesty and a spiritual practice. Raised by two Protestant ministers and with familial Quaker roots, I am formed and nourished by the rich traditions of Islamic ethics and Sufism. I have also been deeply shaped by having lived and studied in Uruguay, Argentina, Spain, Egypt, and Morocco, where I acquired an appreciation for a merciful quotidian made possible by community, walkable cities, and humane, beautiful architecture.”

Elena holds a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School, an M.A.R. in Theology from Yale Divinity School, and a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from Macalester College.

This fall, she will co-teach FC 501 – Spiritual Formation and Personal Practice during the August intensives, as well as SP 615 – Sacred Earth: Spiritualities of Nature and Place and SP 738 – Divine Spark: Comparative Spiritualities during the semester.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Elena Nur Lloyd-Sidle to the ESR community.
