The Separation Generation

November 11, 2021 @ 4:00 pm

A discussion with the authors:

  • Earlham School of Religion Leatherock Professor of Quaker Studies Steve Angell
  • Retired peace activist and journalist Chuck Fager
  • Earlham School of Religion student Jade Souza

From 2009 to 2018, five Quaker yearly meetings either formally underwent a separation into two or more new yearly meetings, or obliged numerous member Friends churches to go independent, or both. These were the most extensive and serious schisms in Quaker polity in more than a century, and the divisions reflect the continuing cultural and social conflicts that are shaking American religion and politics.

The Separation Generation is the first published account of these events.
